The Wheels on the Bus Go Round and Round...

Last year I blogged about the different types of roommates you could have on the road and this year I’ve decided to build off of that and talk about some of the personalities you find on those long bus rides/trips to those far, far away places.
On the Baseball team we travel a lot, so we really get to see who is who on the bus rides around the country.

The Ben Hartz –

Hat pulled over face, mouth open, snoring, drooling, oblivious to the world.

The Kyle Brennan –

Stretching in the aisle, always hydrating from a gallon of water, anticipating the next stop to stretch some more.  This type of bus buddy is also a frequent visitor to the bathroom (probably due to the gallons of water consumed).

The Jimmy Topps –

The non-stop snap-chatter.  This snapping bus buddy has purple beats and a pink headband.  They are always changing their facial expressions and sending it out to show the world.

The Thomas Richards –

The Bathroom Bouncer.  This bus buddy interrogates you before you enter the bathroom and the number of trivia question that he asks you is directly related to your age.

The Freshmen –

A.K.A. the NO FUN ZONE.  These individuals have to sit up in the front of the bus behind the coaches and depending on the size of your team have to double-up in their rows.

This one is a throwback…The Jordan Camp –

This bus buddy wears noise-cancelling headphones but forgets that just because they can’t hear anything doesn’t mean others can’t hear them!  Therefore this person sings out loud with no regard for others around them.

The Perfect Bus Buddy –

Wears headphones, sits silently unless spoken to (they are very pleasant), known to carry a stellar movie collection, willing to share snacks, always knows where they are throughout the trip and how far away the final destination is, along with the nearest rest stop.

I hope all of you find some of these same people on all your fantastic trips to and from competitions during season!  Have a great week and as always…GO BULLS!!!

BRAIN FOOD!

Now that we are in the 2nd week of classes most of us (maybe just me) are still on vacation mentally, so to try and solve this problem, I think we need some brain food for this week! This seems very fitting since we are coming off yet another semester over a 3.0 as an athletic department and there are high expectations for this semester to continue that success!!!!

Riddle #1:

What goes around the world, but stays in a corner?

Riddle #2:

The person who invented it doesn't want it.  The person who bought it doesn't need it.  The person who needs it doesn't know it.  What is it?

Riddle #3:

I'm where yesterday follows today, and tomorrow's in the middle.  What am I?

Answers:

I hope this gets all your brains flowing and continue that awesome success both academically and athletically!  Go Bulls!

WELCOME BACK BULLS!

Are you ready to tip-off the Spring Semester?!?!?

We hope you all had a wonderful break and some quality time with family and friends.  The Winter sports are in the middle of their seasons and doing well, and our Spring sports will be transitioning from the preseason to their seasons within the next few, very short, weeks! Make sure you wear your Blue and White and go support your fellow student athletes!  There is a SAAC meeting tonight (1/29) and if you tell me something cool and interesting you did over break, you will have the opportunity to kick off the semester with some extra bulls pride points for your respective teams!  Great job continually supporting your fellow student athletes!  Also, make a point to thank Athletic Director Danny White and his staff for the Awesome weight room upgrades and renovations downstairs in Alumni Arena!  They work hard for all of us, it's important to let them know we appreciate their hard work and dedication to UB Athletics!  The SAAC E-Board cannot wait for another great semester ahead of us.

Thanksgiving from the Perspective of a Turkey...

Hello everyone! My name is Mr. Turkey and I'm here to tell you a little bit of my side of the Thanksgiving story that started so long ago.

First and foremost, I would like to take the opportunity and take a stance, just like Chick-Fil-A does, Eat more Chicken!  Us turkey's are a proud breed of animal and we were very angry that turkey has evolved into the meat of choice at this time of year.  Here are three reasons why America should have chosen another meat.

First,

THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER TYPES OF MEAT OUT THERE!  Turkey takes forever to cook and we can get dry.  Idk why a lot of you put us in a bag when you cook us, (P.S. there is no need to suffocate us...We are already dead).  At the original thanksgiving it was said that the Pilgrims and the Native Americans ate a lot of vegetables and venison.  Excellent choices!  I believe there was a turkey there too, but the memory is not so clear anymore seeing how I am roughly 400 years old. I know what your thinking...How can a turkey, like myself be 392 years old?  Well for starters, I don't eat turkey and secondly, I work out a lot running away from people who do try and kill me. (rough life, I know).

Why did your ancestors say, "turkey is great it would make a great Thanksgiving Holiday bird to eat." I know we are generally overpopulated in some areas, but jeez! Give us a Break!

The second reason is because,

We LOVE to watch football too!  How can we watch football if we are on your table being carved up and Auntie Margaret and Little Tina are pulling each others hair out, fighting over who gets the opportunity to break the wish bone.  NEWSFLASH, breaking the wishbone is not as cool as watching that dog on that old television called, "ummmmm, what was that show called?" "Come on, someone help me out here!" Cory, "The show was called, Wishbone Mr. Turkey, Wishbone." Mr. Turkey, "Ah! Yes! You see??? Much Cooler."  All we want to do on Thanksgiving is watch football just like you! (Even though the Cowboys and Lions seem to always lose...(Go Patriots =) It doesn't matter, we want to be a live participants of the festivities, not lying on the table dead.

Finally,

Wait is there a third reason? Do we just hate it because we are the ones being eaten and we can't watch football?  I mean us Turkey's do enjoy the holiday music that follows Thanksgiving and the pretty lights and all the festive joy in the world, but what is the point! Wait...after 392 years I think I have finally found the true meaning of being the main entree on Thanksgiving Day!  There is no third reason why you should choose another bird, no, pick us! Take the Turkey!  We are a delicious bird and we will serve you the best on Thanksgiving.  It's not everyday that you get to be a part of a celebration that gives thanks for all we have and for who we care for and love the most in this world.  Humans chose us because they care and love our meat the most!  Wow, I finally see the truth to it all and it only took me 4 centuries!

On a final note, I would like to thank humans for honoring us on Thanksgiving, it's a true honor to be a part of a great celebration of giving thanks to the ones we love and the good health of all.  I would be honored to be on your table this Thanksgiving season and I hope that you appreciate and give thanks that I finally figured out after nearly 400 years of running away, what Thanksgiving truly means for us turkey's.  Have a great Thanksgiving break everyone and study hard at the end of the semester!

Tell me something unique you do at Thanksgiving time and have a chance to gain more Bullspride points for it!  Have a great Thanksgiving break everyone and see you after!  Go Bulls!

An Inside Look...

Men's Swimming and Diving.

Throughout this year I will be interviewing one, or some, of your teammates so your fellow UB student athletes can catch an inside look at other teams!  This week I interviewed DJ McAninch of the Men's Swimming and Diving team.

1.  DJ, what makes your team the most unique team at UB?

I think what makes us the most unique team is all the different personalities on the team.  It's crazy to see how all of the personalities together from all across the country and from so many different backgrounds come together and work together towards one goal in the pool.

2.  Excellent answer! If you were going to have a chicken wing eating contest, who would win on       your team and why?

Definitely Mike Dugan, especially if it was an atomic death eating wing contest, because Dugan is a stud wing eater.

3. Atomic Wings?!? WHATTTTTT??? Who is the quietest person on your team?  How about the most outspoken?

Eric Jensen is the quietest because he is a freshman, but when it comes to the pool you can tell he puts a lot of fire into his swimming and he is just biding his time to come out and be a team leader.  The loudest is probably Dan O’Connor because he loves to sing, but then again it could be Eric Culver...ehhh also Phil Aronica because he is just loud in general. Wait...and Matt Bitara just loves to scream.  So I guess we have a lot of loud guys on our team...

4. What makes your team successful, and how do you continue building to win championships?

I think it's because we are one of the only teams and senior class left to have won a MAC Title.  Everyone on the team knows what the goal is from top to bottom and everyone is on board, we talk about it on a daily basis amongst each other.

5. Tell me a team story that not many people would know about?

Every year we go paint-balling, and one game was called take the Alamo, we did it by class and each class had to build a structure put everyone else in it and then a massacre began.  We all got tons of bruises and laughs and it was a great time.  So, somehow we connected that moment to a MAC Championship and now our team motto has formed into “Take the Alamo” and it's our motivation to win a title.  Something strange that brought us together as a team.

For those Historically inept...this is the Alamo.

6. "Take the Alamo" Fellas!! Who is the best dancer on your team?

Matt Bitera. It's funny because he thinks he is killing it, but he is not.  When a song comes on he immediately starts dancing and closes his eyes and then starts to rip. Everyone gets a good laugh out of it and he is a good sport about it.

7.  Final question, Grey sweat suit, or business casual?

Definitely the Buffalo Bulls sweatsuit, nothing more comfortable than chilling in sweats.

Thank you DJ for his awesome enthusiasm and excitement for this Blog!  Look for more information next week on the Blog, type to you then! ;)

An Inside Look...

Women's Swimming and Diving.

Throughout this year I will be interviewing one, or some, of your teammates so your fellow UB student athletes can catch an inside look at other teams!  This week I interviewed Taylor Steffl of the Women's Swimming and Diving team.

1.     Taylor, what makes your team the most unique team at UB?

How close knit we are, no matter what happens we are always there for each other.  There are also many personalities on the team that make us unique and great at the same time.

2.      Okay Nice! So, if you were going to have a chicken wing eating contest, who would win on your team and why?

Marissa Murphy.  Why? Because she loves Chicken Wings. (The SAAC President?!?!?) I am in shock!!!!

      3.     Who is the quietest person on your team?  How about the most outspoken?
I think Courtney Cook is the quietest because she is a freshman and just a sweetheart! While on the other hand,  Spencer Rodriguez is definitely loudest because if you have never met her before she is incredibly friendly and is not a shy person.

4.     What makes your team successful, and how do you continue building to win championships?
I believe that the trust and devotion we have makes us successful, and drives us every time we have a meet. Our goals makes us successful in building to win championships.

5.     Tell me a team story that not many people would know about?

One time we were all doing dry land work with the men’s team and Phil Aronica was playing on the diving equipment and he fell into the pool and it was hilarious!

6.     Who is the best dancer on your team?

Without a doubt, Alexis Valedon.  Every time a song comes on she is always just dancing and she has some really good moves!

7.     Final question Taylor, Grey sweat suit, or business casual?

Cory...without a doubt in my mind, Grey Sweat suit.  It's incredibly comfortable and I have to say, it's also very stylish!

Thank you Taylor to her awesome insight on the Women's Swimming and Diving team! Stay tuned for next weeks Blog!
