What is Your Deepest Fear?

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate...just kidding, I will not be quoting Coach Carter in this blog.  Here on the e-board we would like to let you know our deepest fear.  Our deepest fear is that one day space aliens will come down and swoop up our President, Marissa Murphy, and then the SAAC group will be run by me....(Cory Folk)...yikes!!! Just kidding again!!  You all are probably like wow get to the point already Cory!  Okay....fine...I will tell you our deepest fear...it's not thattttttttt exciting so don't jump out of your seats!!!!....

Okay...

Our

Deepest

Darkest

Fear

Is.....

Eating too much white bread and then exploding and not being able to perform in our sports....I know so scary!!!  As athletes we have been blessed by the Newman Center for hosting the majority of our SAAC Meetings on Wednesday nights.  But we all skip the salad and go straight for the white rolls that are so fluffy and good.  This is bad!  But who cares!!! If our SAAC President loves the white bread, all of us can indulge in it now and again!  Who cares!!  So now you all know a deep secret of the SAAC E-board.  What is your deepest fear?  And can you overcome that fear one day, or have you overcome a fear already before??

Hair Loss in College...yeah it actually happens...

Hey college kids!!!  Welcome to the latest blog this week!  Today I'm going to give you some tips about and how to deal with hair loss while in college, so you don't end up bald after 4 years at UB

Tip #1:  Go to class and every SAAC meeting!  It will save you from hair loss by approximately 40%, according to leading hair loss specialists!  and looking like me!  And if none of you have seen my shiny "Mr. Clean" like bald head then you are really missing out!!!

Tip #2:  Don't forget to have fun!  Go out and meet new people, one study at the University of Hair Loss in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, shows that if you meet 5 new people a day, it will actually increase the hair growth on top of your head and bring more volume!

Someone on the UB campus that knows about volume is Women's Soccer player Megan Abman.  She says that the first thing you have to do to get great volume out of your hair is thank the "rents" (for anyone, like myself, who has no idea what that is; it means your Parents)!  Secondly, all you have to do is use the right products, dry and BAM! #fabulous!!!!

My question to Megan was:

Q:  How has the volume of your hair impacted your social life?  Do you think people look at you differently because you have a great head of hair compared to someone, such as, Cory Folk?

She replied with...

A: "Having voluminous hair makes my charm so contagious they have literally made vaccinations for it.  (It) Gives me the confidence to ace any test...and yes that includes a Rorschach test.  The police constantly question me just because they find me interesting and when I live my life with these luscious locks, I don't live to beef up my resume, I live to beef up my obituary."

You heard it hear first Folks!

The receding hairline is a brutal reality for some people, especially us men....(You know who you all are fellas), not all of us were blessed with a great head of hair like Brad Pitt or Bradley Cooper, but we can all make it with what we have!!!

P.S. (All of these scientific stats are not real and they should not be taken seriously by the reader).

3 Tips on What UB Gear says about you!

With great athletic talent comes great responsibility…and gear. Here are a few pointers that let you know what your UB gear says about you and the fashion statement you deliver with every entrance you make.

3. Oh, is that you? Rockin’ the grey sweat bottoms the third time this week? This week!?!? No worries. Although others may look at you with disgust, let me assure you that it is an excellent decision that all Student-Athletes give an approving and hearty thumbs up to.
I mean lets be honest here. They are tight enough to mask any unwanted odor after practice while simultaneously remaining baggy enough to hide any awkward bulges from any ice packs, oh let’s say for instance, in or around the groin or glute region. We’ve all been there. It’s awkward and there really is no way to be casual about it. But hey, just slip on a pair of those greys and POOF you are magically somewhat normal looking…except for the waddle when you walk, the squeaking noise of the ice bag and saran wrap rubbing together, and the questioning looks you receive when the ice bag pops and it looks as though you have soiled yourself…#swag.
Strutting around in the grey sweats more then 60% of the time demonstrates that you are a confident individual who does not let anything phase them. Or it could also demonstrate that you are a lazy individual who has no regard for personal hygiene. Either way, you look great. Keep doing you baby!

3. Weight room attire…oh my oh my oh my…where do I even begin? We all have our pet peeves especially on other team’s fashion styles. For now, here are some personal tips so you can stay fashionable while getting swole.
First and foremost, DO NOT wear tie-dye. Ever. What are we? Enrolled in a middle school summer camp? Please. “Oh you play for Crayola?”…Just don’t, you get the idea. Wear the bull and the gear provided! DO utilize fabreeze products as a substitute for a shower/perfume if you have class in the next five minutes following woodways. Trust me. It is the only way your classmates will accept you. BONUS TIP: Mid-calves socks accentuate the calves to help you look even more sexy…you sexy beast you…(insert growl). Fun fact: The mid-calves also conveniently provide the ladies with just enough coverage so in case they forget to shave for the past three weeks (or an entire semester), they can still feel great doing those hang cleans. I mean honestly, who would prefer to spend the extra ten minutes shaving their legs over sleep? Honestly? Is that even a question? Exactly.

1. And finally, to wrap things up, when you rock the full sweat suit (formally referenced as either  ‘greys on greys on greys’ trend or even the full blown blueberry impressionist) you are simply telling the world that on that day, you really do not care…like literally zero point zero zero percentage of cares are given. And with that, when you wear jeans, yes, that does in fact count as you ‘dressing up’. And everyone should acknowledge that. Even the professor should consider giving you extra credit for that day.

Just Like the Monkey Bars from Elementary School

We all ride buses and I believe that every team, minus tennis, sorry ladies and gentlemen :/, have experienced going to the bathroom at the back of the bus when it is pitch black inside and everyone is sleeping across the halls.  If you are sitting at the front of the bus, how do you move your way to the back of the bus when everyone is sleeping and there is hardly any room to move?!?!? Well there are several methods.  First you can climb over everyone, or maybe crawl under all the legs army style. But there are times when you must use the combination, which can be tricky!  We have all done this and its part of the traveling process.  I wonder which team has the most difficult time with this...??  Just another great aspect of the experiences we have as student athletes!

5 Things Student Athletes Should Do in Buffalo!

This is a list that I have created that all student athletes should do during their downtime to explore the many adventures of Buffalo!  This list is in no particular order, but they should all be done in your careers here at UB with teammates and friends!

1.  Go to Niagara Falls! How often do you live in a place where there is majestic natural beauty that people travel from all around the world to see!! Many of you have probably gone already.....GO AGAIN!!!

2. Go to the movies!  The movies are a great place to hang out and relax AFTER classes and practice!

3.  The Walden Galleria!  This mall is great!  Awesome food and shops fill the mall and its a great place to get away from campus.

4.  Shea's Performing Arts Center.  Everyone should try to make it to at least one show here before they graduate!  They bring in a vast array of performances for everyone's pleasure!

5.  Finally, This one is a dare!  Someone go out, find a place they loved and report it back to me.  Then I will make a blog about it!  All about you and the place you went and why other student athletes should go there!  Who will be the first to report back to me?!?

Swimming and Diving Come up JUST Short vs. Eastern Michigan

The UB Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving teams fell just short of victories against Eastern Michigan this past weekend.  It was a tough defeat for the Men as it came down to the last race of the event!  Some notables names on the day were UB's Mike Dugan who won two events, Kelsey Barbour who won the 100 Breaststroke, and Colin McAllister who won the 1,000 yard freestyle.

The UB Spirit was out, as both teams asked for their fellow student-athletes to wear Blue in support of the team as they competed against Eastern.  The Students were just as crazy as the UB Parents were that day! It was a hard fought battle in the UB Pool, and it will only make the two teams more hungry as they go into their next meet against St. Bonaventure at home on February 2nd!  Go out and support the teams as they take down the Bonnies!!  Go Bulls!
